A TRANS feat. Birgit Kjærsgaard: Along the Silk Roads!

Opening Thursday, 13.03.2025 7:00 - 7:30 pm. The Artist is present.

When we travel we move in place. The memory of where we have just been mixes with the experience of the new place as we pass through it.
This project explores the adventurous, the magical and the childlike as we know it from the mysteries of the East such as 1001 Nights and The Silk Roads, as well as the fantasy universe of very young children. It also draws on the ancient Nishijin weaving tradition of Kyoto, which refers to the vertical and the horizontal, and thus to the beginning of the universe and everything.

It is a reference to the cultural mixing that took place when goods, including silk, but also knowledge, ideas, cultures and beliefs were exchanged between travellers along the ancient Silk Roads.

A small-scale map on the floor of the display case, based on the Berlin Underground system and with colours similar to those of the weavings, creates a network of criss-crossing 'Silk Roads' through the underground system.
